Joe has been included on the IoS Pink List this year, a list which determines the most influential gay and lesbian people in Britain today. Considering he only came out yesterday this is a nice little achievement. :P

X-Factor winner always insisted he was straight but came out only yesterday, though the suspicion is that the decision was forced on him. McElderry, 19, spoke bravely, and may inspire others to come to terms with their sexuality. As he says: “I’m happy. I now know who I am.”

Joe McElderry has revealed he is gay, declaring: “I’m really happy, I now know who I am.”

The 19-year-old X Factor winner made the brave decision to come out in an emotional ­interview with the Mirror, just a week after telling his mum.

Joe has always denied rumours he was gay, but insisted the reason was he didn’t know himself until recently.

He added: “I’ve had time to think about things. I wasn’t attracted to anyone anyway, male or female. It never really entered my head I was gay. But I just know. It’s how I feel.”

He’s been the subject of intense scrutiny over his sexuality ever since his sensational X Factor win.

Fans of The X Factor have been scratching their heads for the past few months, wondering one thing:

Where in the world is Joe McElderry?

2009′s winner has kept a very low profile for much of the year, prompting concern that he may headed for the same fate as 2007 victor Leon Jackson.

But as these new pictures show, fans of The Climb singer can breath a sign of relief.

The sweet-voiced Geordie is back in the studio, recording with American record producer Dallas Austin.

He is certainly in safe hands, as Austin’s long list of past collaborators includes Pink, Gwen Stefani, Sugababes and the King and Queen of Pop themselves,Madonna and Michael Jackson.

Joe, 19, has been tweeting about his progress in the studio in the past few days, revealing the long hours he and Austin have put in:

On Tuesday and Wednesday he wrote, ‘at the studio again time to siiiiiing!!! X

‘Finished at 3 last night was amazing! I’m like a kid at christmas haha! X

‘Another late night last night but so worth it!! Off to the studio now :D. X’

He was still at on Friday, too: ‘Just finished another track :D loving it!

Finished another day in the studio! Its the weeeeeekend!!!! :D x’

McElderry is clearly thrilled with the work he is producing for his upcoming album, and he appears to be trying out a new look too.

Growing out the short look he sported on The X Factor last year, the new style seems to be somewhat Jedward-inspired.

HE asked for your votes, now X Factor champ Joe McElderry is asking for your money.
The 19-year-old is taking part in this year’s Great North Run to raise cash for the Teenage Cancer Trust, which recently named him as an ambassador and North-East patron.

And after Gazette readers showed their support to earn him the X Factor crown last year, he’s hoping they will be equally generous with sponsorship.

Westoe singer Joe has set up an online donations site, where people can pledge their cash and help him hit his £8,000 target.

Within days of the site going online, he has already got more than £1,000.

Former Harton Technology College pupil Joe said: “I will be running the Great North Run, which finishes in my home town of South Shields.

“I run almost every day, and I am looking forward to taking part in the world’s biggest half marathon and raising money to develop services and facilities for young people diagnosed with cancer in North East England.

YOUNGSTERS got an X-tra special treat when Joe McElderry dropped in to see them.
The 19-year-old X Factor champ went along to his former school Harton Technology College in South Shields last night to hand out certificates.

The Westoe lad attended the Year 7 and 8 Achievement Awards at the Lisle Road school – much to the delight of the surprised students.

The 11 to 13-year-olds – and parents – raised the roof as headteacher Ken Gibson invited him on stage.

Students had been told a special guest would be handing out the awards, but it was clear from the reaction they had no idea it was Joe waiting in the wings.

The heart-throb left after handing out awards for attendance, achievements in particular subjects and overall performance.

He also told students he was pleased to be back and thanked teachers for their support in helping him to achieve his full potential.

Mr Gibson said: “The pupils went crazy when I called him onstage. It was a lovely evening.”

It’s not the first time the Harton students have been treated to a surprise visit from Joe.

He chose to go to the school with mentor Cheryl Cole as part of his homecoming when he made it to The X Factor finals.

During the visit in December, the teenager performed his signature tune Don’t Stop Believin’.
