By JO(E)ve! The boy got HOT…

Here’s a few things we learnt about Joe McElderry on his recent LadMag cover shoot:

Number 1 – Joe’s a proper nice bloke. Yes, we know he was always a total sweetheart on the X Factor, but that could have all been for the cameras. Turns out it wasn’t. Joe was so lovely on our shoot he even signed a birthday card for a little girl who was looking on to take to her friend’s birthday party the next day. All together now: “Awww!”.

Number 2 – Joe likes a chicken salad. That’s what he had for his lunch.

Number 3 – Joe still stops on the high street. And he loved the River Island outfit our Fashion Editor Jo styled him in so much he asked his mum if they could go out and buy it.

Newcastle’s star singer says he’s focused on breaking the ‘curse’ of male X Factor winners who disappear soon after finding fame.

The 19-year-old says he’s set on unveiling a ‘casual, fun, young, smart, not suits and things’ look ahead of his debut album.

The star reveals his record has taken a shock U-turn: ‘The direction before was a great direction.

‘Then we did one song and it changed the whole album. Now we have new songs in. It’s such a modern kind of style and gone down much pop-ier and up tempo.’

After being listed a top gay role model by charity Stonewall this week, McElderry denies he was pressured into coming out and says: ‘I didn’t really see it as getting it out of the way.

‘I realised who I was and I discovered who I was as a person and I have always been honest about how I felt. I’ve never told lies. I wanted to talk about how I felt.’

On his role model status, he told me: ‘It feels weird. I don’t really see myself as a role model but I would never do anything that is bad as I realise people are looking at me.’

Despite being locked away in the studio, he says he’s already being tracked by scary fans.

‘I’ve had three door mats stolen from my house in Newcastle. In Belfast on the tour, I was strangled when a hundred excited fans pulled me off the bus.’

McElderry can’t wait to follow the likes of Kylie and Britney by appearing at London’s G-A-Y club.

And is he going to sex things up for the boys?

‘We’ll keep it a surprise but I am going to have to pull something out!’
